The Power of Connection

Any one else feel like they are doing life alone sometimes? You may have so many people around you, but you still feel like no one really understands what you are walking through. Cue the power of connection. There is no better remedy for our whole body wellness than connection with other humans.

Have you ever noticed that after you meet with a good friend for coffee, or have a phone call with a long distance friend that your overall mood just feels lighter and re-energized? There is a reason for that! Having connections with others has been linked to resiliency and is thought to act as a buffer against stress.

Connection with others is a way to intentionally combat the feeling of “I’m all alone in this, or no one will understand” - the act of simply sharing with another person what you are experiencing can be healing in itself.

So how do you cultivate connection? You connect! Think about the patterns and rhythms you already have in your day, and how you could add a conversation into one of them. Building connections does take time and effort, but it is so worth it.

Need some ideas?

You could…

  • Meet a friend for coffee while your kids are in a class or sport

  • OR take a walk with a friend - movement and connection? A win win.

  • Call a friend while you are driving or doing laundry

  • Like to workout? Get a friend to join you!

  • Join a club that interests you and you’ll get to know others with similar interests

  • Volunteer with a friend or meet new friends while volunteering

  • Start your own book club (or your activity of choice) and meet monthly to catch up

  • Stop in and check in on someone who you know is feeling lonely and could use a friend

So many options! What are your favorite ways to connect with others? Message us and let us know.

And remember, it’s never too late to begin again.
